Gatehouse is the newest addition to the Brownber collection, set in the stunning Mallerstang valley, a stone’s throw from Pendragon Castle, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Sleeping up to 6 guests across 3 bedrooms, this charming Cumbrian cottage combines stylish interiors with plenty of space to gather, unwind and make the most of the surrounding scenery. With its large garden - complete with sauna hut and outdoor cold-water shower - and thoughtfully designed living spaces, it’s a perfect base for families and friends looking to escape to the hills.
The property has been meticulously renovated by Georgina Kentish (former Soho House architect). The interiors are a modern take on a traditional country cottage – relaxed, characterful and filled with carefully thought-through details that will make your stay feel special.
The house has a warm, homely feel, with plenty of space for both sociable moments and quiet downtime.
The house is well-equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. You will also find a welcome hamper of freshly-baked sourdough, a jar of award-winning marmalade plus a homemade cake and biscuits waiting for you on arrival.
Gatehouse is a 15 minute drive from Brownber, further into the Yorkshire Dales. It is set in the Mallerstang valley, which is (in our opinion!) one of the finest spots in England.
It is a great base for those looking to explore the great outdoors, including keen cyclists (Buttertubs Pass, anyone?), walkers (the nearest hills, Mallerstang Edge or Wild Boar Fell, are beautiful and often deserted) and wild-swimming enthusiasts. It is also well-suited for families, couples and small groups looking for a stylish base to explore the Yorkshire Dales, or to simply take things slow, curling up by the fire with a good book.
The nearest pub (in Nateby) is only a five minute drive away and the nearest town (KIrkby Stephen), is a ten minute drive away.
